SINGERSTRASSE 21/25
In the heart of Vienna
The apartment building Singerstrasse 21/25 was erected upon the last free, and therefore much sought-after, building lot in Vienna’s Inner City.
On the “bomb’s crater”, surrounded by billboards, the most expensive parking spaces in Vienna (if not in the world) were set; at no charge to the clerks of the procuracy to the Ministry of Finance.
In the early 90’s the Maculan Group acquired the property with its unique setting in the city center from the state.
In 1994 construction of SINGERSTRASSE 21/25 got under way and was completed in mid-October 1995. With the mailing addresses Singerstrasse 21/25, Riemergasse 16, and Kumpfgasse 13 the last gap between in Vienna’s Inner City was closed.
An exclusive apartment building according to the plans of the renowned architect Ernst Hoffmann of Hofman&Maculan came into existence. The interior was devised by Stefan Umdasch with a distinctive Viennese touch, such as the chair Aura, a piece of design by Paolo Piva from the Wittmann Collection. The logo of Singerstrasse 21/25 was created by well-known graphic designer Joey Badian, who among others has conceived the logo for Billa and Der Standard.
On the 15th of November 1995 the official dedication of the first genuine boarding house in Vienna’s city center took place. Henceforth 77 luxuriously fitted apartments, as well as four exclusive penthouses featuring roof-top terraces, were available to an international clientele. Since then diplomats, business men and artists are renting the fully furnished apartments as well as long-term tourists or the Viennese, who are having their flats refurbished, or just want to experience the Viennese way of life in a central setting. The minimum duration for rent a unit in the international hotel in Vienna was set at a week. On average the luxurious flats were let for three to four months.
The Concorde Project (predecessor to the Raiffeisen Evolution) took over Singerstrasse 21/25 and held management until the year 2000. In 2001 Singerstrasse 21/25 was acquired by the List Group and is being run successfully ever since.
In late 2014 general refurbishments of the units got under way. Since 2016 Singerstrasse 21/25 features completely redesigned apartments. Furthermore, the luxuriously fitted units are available for short-term stays. In accordance with the work of Josef Hoffmann the apartments were fitted with various Jugendstil – elements. Among others, the chair Jugenstil Modell 381, following the bat chair by Josef Hoffmann; to be deployed in the recently designed breakfast lounge; available to guests from September 2016.
In the redecorated lobby or our art nouveau hotel one will find the armchair Kubus, a design classic by Josef Hoffmann from 1910, manufactured in flawless craft by the company Wittmann.
